The Rocking Chair No. 4R is a handcrafted solid wood rocking chair with an upholstered seat and backrest. Gentle, balanced motion, turned legs and hand-shaped runners make it a calm place to read, feed a baby or simply slow down in a living room, bedroom or nursery.
Design & Comfort
The seat is 50 cm wide and 44 cm deep, set 50 cm above the floor, with the backrest angled for support rather than for lounging. This is a chair you sit in upright, with your feet flat on the ground — comfortable for reading or feeding a baby over long periods, and easy to get out of.
The rocking motion is slow and even across its full travel, with no tipping point at either end. The runners extend behind the backrest, which gives the chair its 90 cm overall depth and keeps it stable even when you lean back.
Construction & Filling
The seat is built on interwoven upholstery webbing belts, which flex under load and distribute weight across the frame instead of concentrating it in one spot. On top of the belts sits high-resilience HR foam, a denser grade of foam that returns to shape after compression and does not flatten out the way standard foam does.
Each chair is upholstered by hand, so minor differences in dimensions, stitching and upholstery tension may occur between pieces. The wood is natural, so grain pattern and shade vary from chair to chair.

Rocking Motion
On soft or deep-pile carpet the runners sink in and the motion becomes uneven; a firm floor or a low-pile rug works best. On delicate flooring such as oiled wood or vinyl, use suitable floor protection, as the runners concentrate the full weight of chair and sitter onto a narrow contact strip.
Keep hands, feet, children and pets clear of the runners while the chair is in motion. Do not stand on the chair, sit on the armrests, or rock against a wall or furniture.
Choose Your Colour
Screen settings, lighting and the direction of the velvet pile all affect how a colour appears, and individual production batches may differ slightly in shade from the sampler. We strongly recommend ordering a physical fabric sample before confirming the final upholstery.
The solid wood finish is a fixed part of this model and is not a separate variation.
Care & Safety
Deal with spills immediately. Blot with a light-coloured dry cloth or paper towel, applying it gently so the liquid is absorbed rather than rubbed in. For stains, a solution of mild soap and water is recommended. Always work from the outside of the stain inwards, following the direction of the pile, to stop it spreading and leaving a ring. With heavier soiling, clean the whole seat or backrest rather than one patch, so no watermarks appear. Never rub hard, soak the fabric, or use bleach, solvents or abrasive sponges and brushes. Test any professional upholstery product on a hidden area first.
Some things are normal and cannot be eliminated. Pilling is a natural property of pile fabrics. Dye can migrate from darker clothing onto lighter upholstery. Creasing and slight deformation appear on the most-used areas, particularly the seat — using the chair evenly and smoothing the surface by hand keeps this to a minimum. Avoid draping blankets or throws over the chair, as foreign fibres transfer onto the velvet.
Wipe the wooden frame with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it at once. Keep the chair away from radiators, fireplaces and other heat sources, and out of prolonged direct sunlight, which fades textiles and alters the tone of the wood. Protect the upholstery from animal claws, sharp clothing details and point loads such as jumping, which can tear a knitted fabric.
Made to Order & Delivery
The chair is dispatched from Poland within the European Union. Deliveries within the EU do not require customs clearance. Orders outside the EU may be subject to local import duties, taxes or customs handling charges.
Please confirm suitable delivery access before ordering. When moving the chair, always lift it by the wooden frame, never by the upholstered seat or backrest. For further information, see our Shipping Policy.

See and Feel the Materials Before You Order
Colours on a screen never match the material in your own room. Order a swatch to see the weave, the sheen and the real shade in your own light, next to your floor, walls and other furniture.
The colours in the selector are the ones we keep ready to order, each photographed on this piece. The fabrics we can upholster go far beyond them — velvet, chenille, bouclé, linen, leather composite, or a fabric you supply yourself. If nothing shown is right, contact us before ordering and we will prepare the piece in the material you choose.
